CHAPTER ON THE WALK OF SAYYIDINA RASULULLAH SALLALAHU ALAYHI WA’ALE HI WASALLAM

Hazrat Sheikh-ul Hadeeth Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhelwi (R.A.) explains;

The blessed walk of Sayyidina Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam has been described in the chapter on the ‘Noble features of Sayyidina Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam’. In this chapter it has been described specifically.

The author writes three ahaadith in this chapter.

(116) Hadith Number 1

Hazrat Abu Hurayrah radiyallahu anhu says, "I did not see anyone more handsome than Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam. It was as if the brightness of the sun had shone from their mubaarak - blessed face. I did not see anyone walk faster than Sayyidina Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam, as if the earth folded for them. A few moments ago they would be here, and then there. We found it difficult to keep pace when we walked with Sayyidina Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam, with them walking at their normal pace."

Commentary

That means we could only with effort keep up with the normal walking pace of Sayyidina Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam.

(117) Hadith Number 2

Hasrat Ebrahim bin Muhammad says: "When 'Sayyidina Ali Radiyallahu 'Anhu described Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam, he used to say: ‘When Rasulullah Salla lahu 'Alayhi Wa’ale hi Wasallam walked, they lifted their blessed leg with vigour. Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam did not drag their blessed feet on the ground like women do. When Sayyidina Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam walked, because of the speed and force of their blessed legs, it seemed as if Rasulullah salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam was descending from a high place".

Commentary

This has been discussed in the chapter on the ' Noble features Sayyidina Rasulullah Salla lahu 'Alayhi Wa’ale hi Wasallam’.

(118) Hadith Number 3

Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Taalib Radiyallahu 'Anhu' says: "When Rasulullah Salla lahu Alayhi Wa’ale hi Wasallam walked, they bent slightly forward as if they were descending from a high place".

Commentary

This has been explained in the previous ahaadith.

Studying Ash-Shaam-il

The blessed walk of Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam)

This chapter brings us details of the manner in which Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) would walk. Ahaadith confirm that Hasrat Abu Hurayrah (Ra) would run behind Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) but it seemed as though Hasrat Abu Hurayrah (ra) were slow, in comparison to Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam).

The way in which Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) walked, was to life their blessed legs forcefully. Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) would take big steps, one after the other. This shows the way in Islam, which is not to stroll but to get to your destination quickly by passing through fast. Muslims should be persistent in everything. We should not waste time but always make best use of our time. There is a saying which is that ‘If you are not in a state of increase, you are in a state of decrease’.

The Miracles of Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam)

In every aspect of the blessed life of Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) are miraculous facts. There is nothing more beautiful that Sayydina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam), and the companions (Ra) also confirm that they have never seen anyone walking faster that the blessed Prophet (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam).
This was because distance was folded for the blessed Prophet (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) and this is also a miracle in the same way that time stands still for the Messenger (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) of Allah (swt). On the night of Miraaj, time stood still when Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) commenced that blessed journey. Time is the result of the Solar system with the earth moving around the sun, this is what makes up the units of time eg months, days, hours etc. Time is relative and therefore on other planets, the relatives change.
